Brushwood Studios Art Gallery - Parknasilla Woods - Sneem - Co. Kerry - Ireland - 00353 (0)64-6645108 From time to time Brushwood Studios runs four day art courses. Usually from a Friday to a Monday in autumn and spring. The courses normally consist of workshops, lectures and demonstrations by Marguerite Anne Muller. The course is designed to stimulate painting and drawing skills by inspiring you to try new and exciting methods and techniques. Nothing in the world of art is rigid and the following time-table is be flexible. Day 1: Through lectures and workshops we will be exploring the characteristics of colour and how colour influences our lives and what we paint. Day 2: Now that we have a greater insight into and reverence for colour we will go on to become familiar with the two brain hemispheres and the important part they play in our artistic endeavours. Several methods will be employed for this purpose: The aim of the exercises, which are fascinating, is to develop drawing skills. They should, if practiced, help you to draw accurately, sensitively and powerfully after a few weeks. Day 3: Once again, through workshops, we will work physically to awaken an immediate response to, and an understanding of, composition and balance. We will explore negatives, line, tonal values and the use of space and colour, etc, to achieve this. Day 4: The beauty of water- colours and the excitement of using them will be delved into now and I will share what I know with you (which is considerable as I have been painting in this medium for many years). You will then be able to take what suits you from the various techniques and develop them in your own time and into your own individual style. For the water-colour section of the course you will need paints, water-colour paper and brushes. If you don't already have everything you need I enclose a shopping list. Painting in oils will be made very much easier and more effective when the exercises I give you become automatic with practice.
